AFRICAN NIGHT CRAWLERS EARTHWORMS AS CHICKEN FEEDS.

I am cultivating earthworms as supplementary feeds for the chicken but right now I dont have enough quantity as feeds. I started with half kilo of the earthworms from AANI at the Quezon Memorial Circle 5 weeks ago. I'm not sure on the quantity as of today.

I tried feeding the chickens with a few worms and they fought over it.

ON FEEDS & WATER

For the first two weeks I gave the chicks feeds from FEEDPRO chick booster 100. OK naman, no offense to FEEDPRO; except that its smells even if we clean and disinfect daily.

On the 3rd week I already bought different grains like corn, green peas, soya, rice and wheat bran, etc. and ground them just enough for the chicks to be able to eat them. No chemicals or whatever added to the feeds but watch out for rats. We now have rats unlike the first two weeks.

Right now even if we only disinfect weekly the smell is negligible but of course there will still be some smell its manure obviously, but not so strong. By the way I also feed them leftover rice and food, vegtable cuttings saka sapal ng niyog. From day 21 I only give them 2 kilos of feed.

On the water no problem I use BIOLYTE OK very effective up to now no antibiotics and no vaccine given. The only added medicine I gave them is Hydrite every week and for deworming on their 21st day. I also ive them crystallized ascorbic acid everyday together with the BIOLYTE. Until now to signs of colds and weakness.

Today I will not give them any feeds and see what happens. I read in one of the blogs in solraya that on of the grower did not give any feeds after 21 days.

THE CHICKS ON ITS 2ND WEEK

A closer look inside the brooder box. The chicks at two weeks old with an average weight of 250 to 300 grams. Feeds at 1 kilo from 7th to 10th day and 1 1/2 kilo from 11th to 14th day.

The chicks are left to roam the whole day and are fed half the amount in the morning and half in the afternoon. Biolyte crystalized ascorbic acid is added to their water for the whole day and pure water at night from day one. Hydrite was given on the 7th day for two days.

Three chicks died on the middle of the week during the night because of the cold breeze and heavy rains that night. Two naked necks and one regular. I did not antcipate the winds I did not place any protection but now theres old sack coverings that I can let down during heavy rains and winds plus two 25 watt incandescent bulbs to heat up the area.

SOLRAYA'S SUNSHINE CHICKENS

Ibought 30 heads of regular and 30 heads of naked neck solraya sunshine day old chicks last June 05 at their Fairview store as my trial batch. I used an old pick-up camper shell as a brooder's box. I finally found a way to make use of it.

I forgot to take pictures of the chicks when they arrived. This pictures of the chicks at one week old. The chicks are already left to roam in the yard.

The chicks are fed half a kilo per day for the first four days and 3/4 kilo per day after the fourth day up to the 7th day.
